Garage Outdoor Lights

The Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) used in our Seagull outdoor garage light fixtures for all homes except 111, 123, 131, 141 Upswept Lane have been discontinued so follow this guide to address.

Seagull originally put two lamps into each fixture for redundancy but only one is needed. You may have an original spiral bulb or one of the pull out types (see below). Both types have a GU24 base / ballast that can be rotated counter clockwise ¼ turn to disengage and remove.  Be careful to twist the base / ballast rather than the bulb to avoid injury.

If you have a #90745 replacement bulb, you can replace that by pulling the bulb straight down then properly orienting the new bulb and pushing that back up into place.

If you find either of these CFL’s in your fixture and don’t already have a direct replacement, the CFL and / or ballast (for the pull out type) can be removed and a GU24 LED or a GU24 base adaptor for a standard bulb can replace the CFL.  If you choose a GU 24 LED bulb you should use a 2700K daylight bulb such as the Satco SAT S9070 10.5W GU24 27K 810 lamp.  Walsh Electric in Colchester is a great source if you need help finding a replacement that other stores may not carry.

One other thing that can be causing your light outage is that the on-off photocell can fail.  You can test this by covering it with a piece of paper to see if the light goes on once you know you have a good bulb in your light fixture.  Your best bet is to remove the original one and take it to the store with you to make sure that the new one is an appropriate match.
